The Berekfürdő bath located at 12 km from Karcag well deserves its national fame with its medicinal water inviting everybody who longs for relaxation.

Berekfürdõ has no romantic history of centuries, as only 5 tofts with 35 inhabitants were found here in the 1920s. Geologists were attracted to the Southern Great Plain in the 1920s, as they thought the area has a rich hydrocarbon base.

In 1925, Ferenc Pávai Vajna chief geologist led the drillings started here. Following the initial hardships of drilling, the works led by technical manager Eligius Róbert Schmidt were crowned with success on 24 January 1928. Thanks to the prompt measures, chemical analysis was performed in February, revealing the calcium, magnesium, sulphur, iodine and bromine content of the resurgent water and meaning the thermal water was rich in minerals.

Operating uninterruptedly until this day, the medicinal spa and bath offers pleasant relaxation to its visitors.
